The Auckland Organists' Association supports church musicians in increasing their skills and providing a "ministry of music".  This can be through workshops, putting you in touch with an organ teacher, or just come along to an organ event and be enthused!

If you need an organist to play for a wedding, funeral, or relieve in a Sunday service, then please contact us and we will endeavour to find you a suitable player.

Successful seminar - Skills of the Church Musician - 11 October 2008

On 11 October 35 keen church musicians met at Dilworth School, Auckland to talk and learn about church music.

The seminar opened with an introduction to the RSCM "Church Music Skills" learning program, then a thought-provoking and challenging presentation of the "Ministry of Music" by Michael Cox, president of the Auckland Organists' Association.

After afternoon tea the group split into three for workshops of the Selection of Music for a service of workshop; Introduction to The Organ (based on the first units of the RSCM Organ Skills programme); and the roles of an ensemble leader.

The seminar concluded with a rousing service in the school chapel combining songs led by the band "Eden Restored" and hymns accompanied by the pipe organ.

The event was overall a resounding success, due in no small part to the effort of the organisers and presenter. Enquiries about the Chuch Music Skills programme have come from throughout and beyond the greater Auckland area.
