Siemens gives memorable Congress Recital

A very fine Congress Recital, the principal set-piece event of any NZAO Congress, was played by guest artist Hayko Siemens of Munich in Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell, on Sunday afternoon, 1 June to a most appreciative audience.
His playing was highly musical, technically sound of course and his fresh and pleasing approach to the resources of the cathedral organ drew warm praise that night from a former Director of Music there, James Tibbles.
A concert that had been billed under the title 'Toccata' because it contained no less than four (!) of them might have been expected to be more than usually daunting in terms of high decibel levels but this was not so. There were many periods of delicate to moderate tone, with the heavier artillery reserved for when it was really needed.
This was a splendidly musical experience that will remain in the memory for a long time. Wellington readers should ensure they do not miss Siemens' Town Hall Concert there on Sunday 8 June.
