PROGRAMME OUTLINE

The theme of this year's Congress focuses on the organ as part of the musical mainstream, and the way other instruments can be used together with the organ.

Friday 29 May

 ORGANZ Council Meeting – St Andrews Blue Room
5.00  Registration opens at St Andrews
6.15 Official Welcome and Opening, and Buffet Tea

GALA CONCERT – St Andrews Church

  Featuring the Manawatu Sinfonia, with Thomas Heywood, in the Handel Organ Concerto in Bb Op 4 No 2, with W T Best’s cadenza.  Plus other items featuring organ with other instruments.

 

Saturday 30 May

9.00
 Registration desk open at St Andrews
9.30–10.30 Workshops
10.40 Morning tea, followed by N Z Association of Organists Performance Competition in St Peters Church, Ruahine St.   (Adjudicator: Thomas Heywood)

 Lunch
1.45 Depart by bus for a “Rangitikei Ramble”
  
  1. Visit the historic St Johns Anglican Church in Feilding, with the presentation of the NZ Organ Preservation Trust Certificate for the historic Lawton Organ
  2. Visit St Stephens Anglican Church, Marton, to inspect the historic Hill Norman and Beard organ
  3. Visit Huntley School (private Boys School) to view the Chapel and short organ recital
  4. Visit the Anglican Church, Sanson, to view and hear the historic Cousans Positive organ   
  5. Afternoon tea “en route”!   Arrive back in city approx 5.00
5.00 NZ Organ Preservation Trust Annual General Meeting
6.00 Tea at St Andrews
  In the spare time before or after Tea you are invited to have a walk through the Square to view the recently upgraded environment and lighting.  In particular view the lighting display centred on the Clock Tower, especially programmed for this Congress.

  1. Visit to Woodville Organ (Harmonium) Museum.  On the way view wind turbines on the Ruahine mountain range.
  2. Organ crawl to organs of interest in Palmerston North
  3. Congress will split into two groups and alternate on these visits
5.00 Jazz Service with Manawatu Jazz Festival players and incorporating organ. All Saints Church
7.00 CONGRESS DINNER at the historic home “Wharerata” on the Massey University campus

 

Monday 1 June

9.15
 At St Peters Church: Presentation on the new Auckland Town Hall organ by Kerry Stevens, plus more music based on the theme
10.30
 Morning tea
10.45 Annual General Meeting of the N Z Association of Organists
  (Activity arranged for non-members of NZAO)
12.15 Lunch and close of Congress
  Followed by meetings of NZOPT and ORGANZ Councils
  (Transport available during the afternoon for travel departures.)
