Hainsworth offers concert programmes with a difference!
New Zealand organist Chris Hainsworth, currently titulaire at Beziers Cathedral, France, will be touring New Zealand in February and April 2009. Nothing particularly unusual about that, except that he is offering our audiences a range of recital programmes and presentations that go well beyond the norm.
A Hainsworth recital can be as serious or as light-hearted as you like... including "From Bach to Bacchus (Intoxicata and Fugue)", with loose associations between the music and the wines of regions of composers' origins (which toured the North Island successfully in 2008). Or "A Night at the Poms" to celebrate the anniversaries of Purcell and Handel; not to mention Mendelssohn and Haydn, who spent long periods in London...
Alternatively he can give a lecture-recital or "one-man-show" on "Purcell's Last Day", texts and music to entertain and educate... using organ and/or harpsichord.
Chris is also skilled at accompanying silent movies, on organ or piano. In the last year, he has performed at the Saint Tropez Film Festival, the Wroclaw Film Festival, London and Paris. Anyone who attended the Hamilton Congress a few years ago will remember with pleasure his splendid embellishment of a rollicking silent movie on the Mighty Wurlitzer at Baycourt Theatre, Tauranga.
And he can do conventional master-classes and lectures as well.
Among other upcoming Hainsworth projects is a CD recording for the Maxwell Fernie Trust on the organ of St Mary of the Angels, Wellington.
