South Canterbury put on a sunny clear day - the best weather for several weeks - for the start of Congress 210 in Timaru. Delegates from Auckland to Dunedin congregated in Chalmers Presbyterian Church for a light-hearted variety concert including two organs singly and together (2 manual Brindley & Foster in the church, and a 3-rank Brake organ sited in the rear gallery), and organ with choir, cornet, and even accompanying a 'silent' movie.

The ORGANZ 47th National Congress will officially begin tomorrow at the factory of South Island Organ Company. After the formal welcome will be a day of exploring many different pipe organs, starting in the factory and taking in several South Canterbury townships before returning to Timaru for the Congress Dinner.
