Programme
| J. Pachelbel | Toccata in E minor |
| J. S. Bach | ‘Adagio’, from Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C (BWV 564) |
| F. Mendelssohn | Prelude and Fugue No. 1 in C minor (Op. 37) |
| O. Messiaen | ‘Joie et Clarté des Corps Glorieux’, from Les Corps Glorieux (Joy and splendour of the Body ) |
| E. Traerup Sark | Toccata Primi Toni |
| J. S. Bach | Fugue in E flat, ‘St. Anne’ (BWV 552) |
As this is the 100th anniversary of the birth of French composer Olivier Messiaen, Daniel will present a movement from ‘Les Glorieux’ written just before the outbreak of World War Two. The chosen movement illustrates a text from St Matthew’s Gospel ‘Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun’… Messiaen illustrates it using harmonies that are the stock-in-trade of jazz composers.
Daniel has just finished his Master of Music degree at the University of Southampton, where he researched the Genevan and Scottish Psalters of the sixteenth century. Daniel also holds the degree of Bachelor of Arts from the University of Cambridge, and is an Associate of the Royal College of Organists. Before learning the organ, Daniel studied the cello and piano, joining the London Schools Symphony Orchestra as a cellist in 2000, and touring with them to France and Japan. More recently he has been involved with the LSSO as a keyboard player (piano, celesta, harmonium, and organ), including playing the organ with them at the Barbican (2006) and the Royal Albert Hall in 2005.
For interested young people, Daniel will be giving a short illustrated demonstration talk at the organ at 5.15 pm. For further information, phone Roy Tankersley on 355 3908
