Woosug Kang is based in Bloomington, Indiana, USA, where he is a Doctorate student in Music for Organ performance. He comes from Drury, Auckland, and received his Bachelor of Music degree from Auckland University in Organ performance, studying under Dr. John Wells. During his time at Auckland University, he received “senior” prize in music, and was the Belinda Godfrey Organ Scholar at Auckland Cathedral of Holy Trinity. He worked as the organist for famed Auckland based choir, Musica Sacra, accompanying the choir for concerts, monthly Evensongs, live radio broadcasts, TV broadcasts and involved in the production of their first two CDs. In 2003, he began his study for Masters degree in Music at renowned Yale University, USA studying under Prof. Thomas Murray. He also studied harpsichord with Prof. Richard Rephann and organ improvisation with Dr. William Porter during his time at Yale. He received prizes such as Charles Ives award and H.F Bozyan scholarship for excelling in organ performance. He also is active as a conductor, founded a choir for Episcopal Church at Yale, that strives for sacred music in campus of Yale University. Woosug moved to Bloomington, Indiana in 2005, to pursue Doctorate in Music Degree in Organ performance from Indiana University, studying with Dr. Larry Smith, and working on his minors in Church music, and Music History and Literature. Woosug played many recitals in New Zealand and Australia and keeps busy schedule with recitals all over USA in venues such as the St. Mary’s the Virgin, Times Square, New York City, the Trinity Church in Boston, St. Philip’s Cathedral, Atlanta, Georgia, and Princeton Chapel University, and future recital engagements include St. Thomas in Fifth Ave, New York City. In September 2009, he will travel to Georgia, USA for the Semi-final round of the Jordan International Organ Competition to compete with 13 other organists from all over the world for one of the premier competitions in the world.
