Thomas Gaynor, Organ Scholar of Wellington Anglican Cathedral of St. Paul.will give the George Mason Trust organ concert in the Taranaki Cathedral Church of St Mary, New Plymouth, on Sunday afternoon 1Thomas Gaynor September. The Trust aims to feature rising stars of NZ organ playing and Thomas is certainly in that category having won competitive awards here (notably the 2009 ORGANZ Organ Performance Award) and in Australia. Last month he achieved another major triumph when he was named the recipient of the inaugural Maxwell Fernie Centenary Award.

In New Plymouth he will play organ works by Bach, Bonnet, Brahms, Lemare and Elgar.  He is joined on the programme by the Taranaki Cathedral Choir, under Director Michael Cox, which will sing works by Thomas Walmisley and S.S. Wesley.

The organ at St Mary's is a 30 stop, 3 manual and pedal Bishop & Starr/George Croft/George Croft & Son organ. It contains pipe work from 1865 and its late-Victorian character distinguishes itself in the warm acoustic of this historic stone building.
