Dr John Wells, Auckland City Organist and ORGANZ Patron, has composed two new settings of the evening canticles (the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) under commission from Musica Sacra and the Donny Charitable Trust.

The first set will be premiered by Musica Sacra under the direction of Dr Indra Hughes on Sunday 29 June. The composer, who is also Musica Sacra's organist, has included a vituoso organ part.

The second set, which are expected to receive their first performance ilater this year will be for unaccompanied double choir. These two new works will be a significant addition to the NZ choral repertoire which contains relatively few settings of these texts.
