Description

Simon Mace, an emerging concert organist currently residing in Dunedin, plays his debut solo recital upon the largest pipe organ on Auckland's North Shore. This exciting young talent is not to be missed. Organ music spanning five centuries: from "Toccata Quarta" by Frescobaldi (1583-1643) to "The Power of Life" by Norwegian composer Mons Takle (1942-), with works by Bach, Bohm and Brahms in-between.
Tickets $10 at the door. (Children under 18 free if accompanied by a paying adult)
Simon Mace is currently Organ Scholar at St Paul's Cathedral, Dunedin, and organist at All Saints Church, Dunedin. He is studying Classical Music Performance and Composition at the University of Otago. As well as his organ performance, for which he has won several prizes, Simon sings with several Dunedin choirs and is becoming established as a young composer.
The pipe organ in Takapuna Methodist Church was originally built in 1963, and has been enlarged since, With 3 manuals and pedals and over 2400 individual pipes, it is the largest pipe organ on the North Shore. The organ is in need of expensive maintenance work: come and hear this important instrument and help ensure its future.

Description
The organ is the largest pipe organ on the North Shore, 3 manuals and pedals and over 2400 pipes. Built in 1963 with a specification developed by Eric Winstone and Maxwell Fernie, it was extended in 1977 and 1984. A restoration/upgrade project is being planned.
